Whether you are an experienced artist or an absolute beginner, James Gallagher’s collage workshops are sure to inspire you and expand your understanding of this timeless medium. Past workshops have been held at The Morgan Library, Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, High School for Fashion Industries, Artists and Fleas, Happy Medium, Artist & Craftsman, The Painting School, and The Museum of Fine Arts in Houston.

The Art of Collage
This course was designed for NYC's art cafe Happy Medium. Each session begins with a brief history of collage—showcasing pivotal works from the early Cubist movement to today's contemporary resurgence—designed to ignite creativity. Following a dynamic warm-up exercise, participants will create their own artwork in a fun and relaxed setting.
Collage Exploration
In this course participants experiment with composition, narrative, and style to create their own uniquely personal visions. Throughout the session, Gallagher provides tailored feedback, practical examples, and individual encouragement. Rather than just teaching technique, his ultimate goal is to challenge you to think differently about the medium, to let your guard down, and experiment. The workshop concludes with a group showcase, celebrating the diverse styles and surprising results that make collage such a powerful medium.
Still Life Collage
In this course participants select objects (vessels, flowers, fruit, etc) as subject matter to create their own still life collage. experiment with composition, narrative, and style to create their own uniquely personal visions. Throughout the session, Gallagher provides tailored feedback, practical examples, and individual encouragement. Rather than just teaching technique, his ultimate goal is to challenge you to think differently about the medium, to let your guard down, and experiment. Collage Corpse
In this course participants engage in a series of collective collages that are passed around the class with surprising results.
